Annual Safety Luncheon recognizes 2025 safety award recipients and decades of accident-free service

Metro Honors Outstanding Safety Achievements, Celebrates Elite Two Million Mile Operator

June 30, 2026

Metro celebrated the employees who make safety the foundation of every trip during its Annual Safety Luncheon, recognizing operators, maintenance employees, and support staff for outstanding safety performance and career milestones achieved in 2025.

The ceremony highlighted one of the rarest accomplishments in the transit industry as 38-year Metro Operator Clausell Marshall was recognized for safely driving more than two million miles without a preventable accident.

The distinction places Marshall among an elite group of transit professionals nationwide. Fewer than one-tenth of one percent of transit operators ever achieve the milestone, representing decades of skill, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to passenger safety.

In total, 82 operators and 16 maintenance employees received 2025 performance and safety awards. Many were recognized for extraordinary career milestones, including:

  • 1 employee reaching more than 40 years without a preventable accident or injury;
  • 3 employees reaching more than 30 years;
  • 13 employees reaching 25 years;
  • 20 employees reaching 20 years;
  • 19 employees reaching 15 or more years &
  • 9 employees reaching 10 years without a preventable accident or injury

“Behind every safety milestone is a person who has spent years making the right decisions for our riders, team members, and community,” said Brandy Jones, Metro’s Chief Communications and Marketing Officer. “We’re proud to recognize these employees because their commitment has helped shape a culture that continues to make Metro safer for everyone.”

The achievements come as Metro continues to strengthen its safety culture across the organization. Over the past two years, the agency has reduced preventable accidents by 31 percent through continued investment in employee training, safety initiatives, and a culture focused on continuous improvement.

Metro’s commitment to safety has also earned national recognition. Earlier this year, the agency received the American Public Transportation Association’s Gold Award for Bus Safety, Security & Emergency Management, recognizing Metro’s innovative approach to enhancing safety, strengthening security, and improving emergency preparedness.

Metro congratulates all of its 2025 Safety Award recipients and thanks every team member whose dedication helps keep riders, coworkers, and the community safe every trip, every day.
