Metro is pleased to announce the appointment of Tony Balmert as its new Senior Director of Maintenance Operations, bringing with him more than two decades of leadership experience in fleet management and transportation operations.
Balmert joins Metro after serving as Fleet Manager for PepsiCo/Frito Lay in Dallas, where he oversaw large-scale maintenance operations for one of the nation’s most complex corporate fleets. He previously held leadership roles in the rail sector, including Regional Senior Manager of Maintenance for Progress Rail and a series of progressive roles with Norfolk Southern Rail, where he developed deep expertise in maintenance performance, workforce leadership, and operational reliability.
Throughout his career, Balmert has been recognized for leveraging organizational data to drive performance, strengthen KPIs, and build efficient, accountable maintenance programs. He also places a strong emphasis on employee engagement, creating work environments where frontline teams are supported, motivated, and equipped to succeed.
“Tony’s background leading both large fleets and rail operations, paired with his proven track record of improving performance through data-driven strategies, make him a tremendous addition to our leadership team,” said Bill Spraul, Metro’s Chief Operations Officer. “His focus on both operational excellence and employee culture will play a key role as Metro continues to modernize its fleet and deliver safe, reliable service to our community.”
As Senior Director of Maintenance Operations, Balmert will oversee all aspects of Metro’s maintenance activities, ensuring optimal fleet performance, safety, and readiness as the agency continues to expand service and invest in the future of public transit in Greater Cincinnati.
