CINCINNATI – Metro staff will be taking part in a full-scale security exercise on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Metro bus service will not be affected.
The training exercise is targeted to address counter-terrorism for Metro staff and community constituents including local fire and police departments, the Hamilton County EMA and other organizations. It will be held primarily at Metro’s Bond Hill facility, but will also include efforts at the Queensgate facility and Metro’s downtown location at 602 Main Street.
Metro was awarded funding to be used toward designing and executing a simulation exercise as a part of the federal 2010 Transit Security Grant Program. The funding also included a tabletop-style exercise that was completed in August. Metro is working with ARMADA, an operational risk and all hazards solutions provider based in Central Ohio, to perform these emergency exercises.
This full-scale security exercise will ensure that all of Metro’s areas – from operations to communications – are prepared in case of an emergency. Metro regularly serves as an emergency response partner by providing buses for major fires, evacuations or other serious incidents.
Metro is a non-profit, tax-funded public service of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing about 17 million rides per year.
