METRO AND WINTER WEATHER
January 2010

Here are the most frequently asked questions about winter weather and its effects on Metro service.

Why hasn’t the snow been cleared at my bus stop?
The City of Cincinnati or the local municipality or township in which the stop is located are responsible for clearing the sidewalks of ice and snow.

Is my bus going to be late?
Buses run late due to the weather and traffic conditions. We don’t have information about specific buses, but when the weather is bad, we experience delays overall.

Also, buses can’t stop on icy hills, so please board at the top or bottom of hills.

Why are the buses late?
Road conditions, including untreated streets and hills, and traffic can slow down our service. Our bus operators are instructed to put safety ahead of schedules, especially on days like this.

Why is my express bus late?
Many express trips operate Cincinnati Public School trips before they pick up express riders. These buses may experience delays taking students home, and will be there to pick up express riders as soon as it is safely possible.

Can you tell me where my bus is?
We don’t have specific information on each bus trip. When we have significant snow accumulation, we experience delays system-wide due to weather and traffic.

Can you give us any idea when the bus is coming?
We have no way of knowing when a specific bus will arrive. When road conditions make driving difficult for all drivers, we expect that all service will operate with delays. Safety is our first priority, so we really appreciate your patience.

Why can’t you just call the bus driver?
We don’t want to call bus operators and distract them while they’re concentrating on driving in winter weather conditions.

Don’t you have GPS to track buses?
We do, but in bad weather situations, our radio control center is extremely busy helping our 300+ bus operators on the road and can’t take calls to check to see where specific buses are.

Are the buses still running?
Yes, all Metro routes are operating, but with delays due to the road conditions. Safety is the most important thing right now.

Will Metro cancel service?
Metro has operated through all snowstorms unless ordered by law enforcement to stop.

My child isn't home… can you tell me where the bus is?
If your child uses Cincinnati Public School Xtra service, please call CPS Transportation at 363-0330.

If your child uses regular Metro service, all service is running late.
