S.O.R.T.A. Approves Purchase of 38 Vehicles For 11 Social Services Agencies

Seniors, people with disabilities benefit from $1.4 million federal grant.

CINCINNATI – Several local social service agencies will receive new accessible vehicles to better serve seniors and individuals with disabilities, thanks to a federal grant that is being administered by the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority.  The SORTA Board voted to approve the purchase of the vehicles on behalf of the agencies at its board meeting today.

SORTA has partnered with the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) to administer $1.4 million in federal funding through a grant program designed to enhance the mobility of seniors and individuals with disabilities. The agencies will provide the local match funding to leverage the grant.

SORTA is responsible for overseeing the procurement process for ordering the vehicles for the partner agencies, in addition to ensuring the vehicles meet all federal maintenance and inspection requirements.

“It's about collective empowerment and providing all of our customers equal opportunity to independently pursue self-actualization. The 38 new vehicles will help these social service organizations improve the services they provide to seasoned citizens and individuals with disabilities," said Jason Dunn, Chair of the SORTA Board. "As the regional transit authority, we will continue to partner and facilitate this much needed transportation benefit for our region."

The vehicles will be used by agencies throughout the region:

  • Cincinnati Area Senior Services
  • Clermont Senior Services
  • Easter Seals TriState
  • Mercy Health West Park
  • Knolls of Oxford
  • Middletown Senior Services
  • Partners in Prime
  • Senior Services of Northern Kentucky
  • Sycamore Senior Center
  • Warren County Community Services
  • Wesley Community Services

Metro is a non-profit, tax-funded public service of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing about 17 million rides per year.
