ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF METRO

Metro works all year long to protect our environment, save energy and reduce carbon emissions through public transportation.

Here are some specific ways Metro is making a difference:

• Metro fuels all 388 buses with a blend of biodiesel and regular diesel fuel
• All Metro buses meet strict EPA standards
• Metro’s newer buses reduce hydrocarbon emissions by 98.5%, carbon monoxide emissions by 97%, and particulate (soot) by 85%
• Metro washes its buses with rainwater and groundwater runoff
• Metro heats the Queensgate operating garage with waste oil
• Metro recycles paper, plastic and aluminum
• Metro recycles antifreeze, refrigerants and motor fluids
• Metro operates ethanol-powered (E-85) staff vehicles
• Metro has six hybrid electric buses on order for delivery in early 2009
