ROXANNE QUALLS JOINS S.O.R.T.A. BOARD OF TRUSTEES

CINCINNATI - Roxanne Qualls has been appointed to the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority's nine-member board of trustees. SORTA operates Metro and Access public transportation services in Greater Cincinnati.

Qualls is currently Director of Public Leadership Initiatives and visiting professor at Northern Kentucky University.

Mayor of the City of Cincinnati from 1991 to 1999 and a city council member, Qualls also has served the community as director of Cincinnati Citizen Action, Women Helping Women, and the Northern Kentucky Rape Crisis Center.

Qualls earned a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, where she received three fellowships, including a Loeb Fellowship at Harvard's Graduate School of Design. She attended the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Art and Architecture and holds an honorary doctorate from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Qualls has served on numerous boards, including the Great Rivers Girl Scout Council. She is a member of the national board of the Congress for New Urbanism. Throughout her career, Qualls has provided leadership to a number of organizations representing environmental and social justice interests.

The recipient of numerous local and national awards for excellence in public administration and community service, Quall's life reflects her beliefs. She is a resident of downtown Cincinnati, consistent with New Urbanism philosophy.

Metro and Access are non-profit public services of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, providing almost 22 million rides per year in the Greater Cincinnati community.
